Scholarships

The association grants a number of scholarships each year. Please note the related information below.

Purpose

Number and value of awards

The value of scholarships awarded annually is $500 to $1000 each.  The scholarships are not automatically renewable or transferable.  The scholarships are to be used for a full-time or part-time course of study leading to a diploma or first degree

Where tenable

These awards are tenable in any recognized university, community college or high school

Eligibility

Any person or persons within the Calgary community that is inclined academically to pursue their education and is active in volunteering within the community

Qualifications and Obligations of Applications

  • Must be presently attending high school
  • Must hold a secondary school diploma
  • Must be a first year student enrolled at or presently attending a recognized university or college.

Selection of scholarship winners

The Selection Committee appointed by the Grenada/Canada Social and Cultural Association of Calgary will select candidates and administer the scholarship programme.

Evaluation will be based on

A core academic transcript
2 letters of reference (one must be from the academic institution attended)

Obligations of winners

Awarded winners must:

  • be attending a high school and have proof of extra-curricular activities    
  • be a recipient of a letter or admission to a first year program, or be continuing first year of university or college
  • pursue at least one (1) full year of study
  • submit to the Grenada/Canada Social and Cultural Association of Calgary (within 1 month of selection for scholarship) confirmation of admission to the institution
  • be prepared to participate in future award ceremonies and serve as role model for others

Conditions of payment
A cheque for the full value of the scholarship will only be issued to the institution upon receipt of proof of enrollment for the calendar year.

A cheque for the full value of the scholarship will only be issued to the high school upon receipt of proof of enrollment for the extra curricular activity.

Closing date for application for scholarship for 2011-2012

Completed application package MUST be received no later than July 30th, 2011.
